"direct democracy means involving the public directly in making decisions. By contrast, representative democracy involves the public choosing representatives, who make these decisions on their behalf."

HELLO!

I'm recruiting up to eight people to run with me for City Council on a direct democracy platform, enabling people to vote by mail or online.

To me, this is the best idea I've ever had. I came to work at Canada Post specifically to recruit letter carriers for this cause. But I'm not surprised I'm fumbling this recruiting stage by leaving everything to the last second. I really don't like trying to convince others to take a risk.

_ _ _

If succesfully elected, I'm not the boss. We decide together.

To make it easier to recruit you for this election run, I will cover the $100 application fee, and assist with the forms you submit to run for City Council. The deadline is Sept. 22nd (Monday) at Noon to submit your nomination papers at City Hall!

I would like a headshot to put on the website/flyers with a little bit about yourself, but otherwise you do not have to do a single thing unless you get elected. I am taking care of signage and flyer delivery. I will accept help of course, but I know you are all way busier than I am.

In 2021 City Council changed the bylaws so they can work remotely, and are only required to turn their camera on when casting their vote.

City Council was in session for a total 70 hours in their first 12 months.
The City Councillors base salary is $69,673.14 for 2026.
[$71,066.60 for 2027, $72,487.93 for 2028 and $73,937.69 for 2029]

In addition City Councillors receive:
- $200 a month vehicle allowance
- Expense account up to 6.25% of their base salary ($4354.57 for 2026).
- Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance
- Dependent Insurance
- Extended Health & Dental Care
- Employee & Family Assistance Plan
- $500 Healthcare Spending Account
- Parental leave
- $10,000 travel expenses account for events outside Grande Prairie

If you are elected, there are mandatory training sessions the afternoon of October 24, and the week of October 27 to 31.

Before March 1st 2026, you must complete a form to disclose donations received and your campaign expenses. You can keep up to $999 of unspent donations, the rest must be donated to charity. If you receive or spend $1000, you have to immediately create a bank account for your campaign.

The actual website address that will be used is www.DirectDemocracyCandidates.com, this www.NoMorePoliticans.com one was too negative.

I will be running for Councillor instead of Mayor if I recruit less than eight people. I'll be happy if I recruit four people as if we all get elected we control City Council. I understand if you're only willing if a lot of others are also willing.

I'm adding a defintion of direct democracy to the following flyer/website and will put more about myself.
